A shopper’s guide to the galaxy
MAKE THE ORBIT AROUND LITTLE ROCK

Ashley Square

Rodney Parham and Reservoir roads

Short on dough but want to look and feel good?  This plaza is home to some popular budget-conscious stores like T.J. Maxx, Shoe Connection, and Holliday’s.  The health-conscious can get great deals on vitamins and dietary supplements at Drug Emporium.

Bowman Curve Shopping Center

Bowman Road and West Markham Street

If you find yourself shufflin’ out to west Little Rock for some upscale duds, Private Colletions is the place to go, with a little Shoe Revue on the side.  Empowered Women’s Gold, Easy Runner and Take a Hike are athletic specialty shops for the outdoors set.

Breckenridge Village

Breckenridge Drive off Rodney Parham Road

This venerable Little Rock shopping center is home to several apparel stores.  For women, Elle prides itself on the personal attention and service it provides, and Barbara Graves Intimate Fashions is Little Rock’s underpinning monolith.  Accessories emporium Kristin Todd adjoins women’s apparel store Forsythe’s for a little one-stop shopping.  Pinky Punky offers extensive pageant and evening wear choices, and there’s Greenhaw’s for the men.

Far West Little Rock

Along Financial Centre Parkway, Bowman Road and Chenal Parkway

This year’s new additions to Big Box land include craft superstore Garden Ridge, Petco and Shoe Carnival.  Wal-Mart reigns on Bowman Road (with Sam’s Club next door).  Along Chenal you’ll fin discount megastore Target and specialty superstores like Best Buy, Home Depot and Gateway Computers.  Other offerings include Bed Bath and Beyond, Old Navy, Sports Authority, Toys ‘R’ Us, Barnes and Noble, Linens N’ Things, Petsmart, Pier 1, Sharper Image and David’s Bridal.

Heights

Mostly Kavanaugh Boulevard north of University Avenue; also along “R” Street

You could spend days in the Heights and still not fully explore all the shops in one of Little Rock’s oldest and most elegant neighborhoods.

No chains here, just intimate shops for antiques (Above it All Mall and Cabbage Cobblestone and Vine, Judy C. Martin Tablewear, and the Great Southern Sauce Company), gifts (Et Cetera, Foster Cochran, florist Tipton and Hurst, and the Design Center) and clothing (G and S Clothing and the venerable Mr. Wicks for men, New Traditions, Feinstein’s and Kristin Chase for women, The Toggery for children, and newcomer Tulips for hip teens.)

“R” Street is home to two excellent stores:  the Heights Toy Center and Woodsworth Books.  Ozark Outdoor Supply is on Kavanaugh and its name says it all.

Freddie’s Gift Shop offers a huge selection of cards and stationary; Mary Healey’s Fine Jewelry and Roberson’s will well you some gems.

Hillcrest

Kavanaugh Boulevard from Walnut Street to Southwood

If you can’t find what you’re looking for among the myriad shops in the Heights, head farther down Kavanaugh.  Hillcrest has an aura all its own, and so do its stores.  Antique stores are a stable, from the elegant Antiquarius, which stocks French and English antiques, to the Hillcrest Antique Co-op and Sweet Home, with their more cottage-themed offerings.  Check out Haus Werk and Hillcrest Interiors for more interior design ideas.

Connie Fails’ store handles her designer clothing, as does Jamileh Hamran’s.  There’s coffee and tea at River City; lotions and soaps at Good For You; cards, stationery and gifts at Papers, Box Turtle and Full Moon.

Lakewood Village Shopping Park

This shopping center contains a Books-Million, the women’s clothing store the Colony Shop, a Stein Mart, S and K Clothing and a Pier 1, among other stores, such as Goody’s and Shoe Carnival.

Pavilion in the Park

8201 Cantrell Road

A small but exclusive selection of stores, Pavilion is home to Bauman’s Men’s Shop and the perfumery and the gift store Powder and Smoke, one of the best such stores in the South.  B. Barnett, which offers women’s designer clothing, resides here, as does the popular restaurant Trio’s.

Perris Plaza

Markham Street and Chenal Parkway

One of the newer shopping centers in west Little Rock includes Luby’s Cafeteria, Norwalk the Furniture Idea, Antique Rose Florist and Gifts, and Rock Creek Wine and Spirits.  Open house, which offers a beautiful selection of tableware and gifts, also resides at Perris Plaza.

Pleasant Valley Plaza

Along President Clinton Blvd., east of Cumberland to I-30

Dollar Tree, General Nutrition Center, Zale’s Jewelers and Waldenbooks also can be found here.

Village at Pleasant Valley

10700 N. Rodney Parham Road

The Crown Shop and Country cupboard are your choice for cards and gifts.  Those who like natural things – from food to clothing – will find Wild Oats Market and Beyond Cotton of interest.

Village at Rahling Road

Chenal Parkway and Rahling Road

One of Little Rock’s newest shopping centers, this spot out west has one of the finest grocery stores in the area, Brannon’s Market, which features a large selection of specialty foods as well as meals to go or to eat in.
